Trusting the Universe: Embracing Life’s Flow
January 16, 2025Happy Earth Day!
April 23, 2025A Lesson in Love and Presence
Death is a topic many shy away from, yet it is an inevitable part of life. Walking alongside someone as they prepare to transition is one of the most profound, heart-opening experiences we can have. Over the past month, I had the honor of accompanying my beloved mother-in-law, Mimi, as her health declined and she neared her next journey.
At 95 years old, Mimi had lived a long and joyful life, full of laughter, music, and cherished moments. Her final days taught me valuable lessons about acceptance, presence, and the beauty that exists even in moments of loss.
Recognizing the Signs of Transition
As I watched Mimi’s appetite wane, I was reminded of how animals instinctively prepare for their transition. She began to refuse food but found comfort in small acts of nourishment, like sipping Ensure when I cheered her on. These moments mirrored the care I’ve given to pets nearing their end, teaching me that the process of letting go is universal.
It became clear that Mimi held on to ensure everything was in place. She waited until her loved ones had the chance to visit, share laughter, and reminisce. It was as if she knew her time was near and wanted to leave nothing unresolved.
Finding Joy in the Final Moments
Even as her body weakened, Mimi’s spirit shone brightly. She delighted in walks to see Christmas lights, and her laughter echoed during our conversations. The day before she passed, when asked how she was, she smiled and said, “Very good,” despite her body shutting down. It was a testament to the strength of her soul and her ability to find joy even in challenging times.
On the final day, as her breath grew shallow and communication became limited, I felt her presence more strongly than ever. I played her favorite songs, spoke softly to her, and encouraged her to move toward the light when she was ready.
The Grace of Letting Go
When the priest arrived to administer last rites, it felt divinely orchestrated. After he left, I held her hand, reassured her it was okay to let go, and continued to stay present. A Pranic Healing protocol helped ease her transition, and I witnessed the peacefulness it brought.
Her final gift to us all was one of grace. She waited to be lovingly bathed, her body cared for with the same tenderness she’d given throughout her life. As I turned to grab her socks, she took her last breath. She left this world in cleanliness, peace, and love, surrounded by the energy of care.
Lessons in Presence and Transition
This journey with Mimi taught me that death, while painful, is also filled with beauty and connection. Being fully present allowed me to appreciate the small, meaningful moments: a smile, a hand squeeze, a shared laugh. These memories now serve as a balm for my grief and a reminder of the sacredness of life.
Embracing the Next Chapter
On the morning after her passing, I woke up singing Mimi’s favorite song, “Bésame Mucho,” feeling her spirit around me. It was a gentle reminder that those we love never truly leave us. Their energy remains, intertwined with ours, guiding and comforting us from beyond.
Death, when approached with love and presence, becomes not an end but a transition—a continuation of the soul’s journey. I feel grateful for the lessons Mimi shared with me in her final days and for the privilege of helping her navigate her way to the next chapter.
Final Reflections
Accompanying someone to their final journey is one of life’s greatest honors. It reminds us of the importance of presence, the power of love, and the interconnectedness of all things. While the experience can be challenging, it is also profoundly beautiful. In the end, we are reminded to cherish each moment, honor our loved ones, and trust that the journey continues—both for them and for us.
